Patrick Amarillas
With the cold probing steel of a knife blade and a glue stick glossy ads for various useless products are transformed into dada nightmares and meticulously planned graphic design layouts are reduced to clutter. The method for creating this type of accelerated cultural entropy is unique to the medium of collage.  For most artists the creative process involves making "something out of nothing."  A blank canvas, an un-carved stone are some usual starting points.  Collage is something different.  I am limited by the images available to me.  This makes it impractical to work with an idea of the finished piece in mind.  Rather, serendipity must be relied on for inspiration.  The result is through these paper autopsies, images are rearranged until they are patterned after the subconscious debris coughed up by my brain. Often with unintended results. patrickamarillas[at]gmail.com
